Soooo as you know, I was a tad disappointed by the cider cocktail that we had at Lucky on Monday. Luckily, my brilliant sister and business partner had an idea: let’s make our own! We tried two super simple recipes using our old cider standby, Bold Rock Virginia Apple.
The Cranberry Apple Cider Cocktail only calls for 4 ingredients, and you likely have them all at your house right now! Combine vodka, cranberry juice, and orange juice in a cocktail shaker, pour the mixture over ice, and then add a bottle of hard cider. Crazy easy, right?? The result is an attractive, refreshing, tasty beverage that makes Wednesday feel like Friday. The recipe recommends garnishing the rim with an apple wedge, which I totally forgot to do, but it would have been a festive touch. This mixture could be a great sangria base, and might be even tastier with a dryer, champagne-like cider.
The next recipe was even easier, and isn’t actually a cocktail. A “snakebite” is a mixture of equal parts lager and hard cider; you simply fill a pint glass halfway with lager, allow it to settle, and then pour cider on top. We decided to stay in Virginia (and actually, to stay on Route 151!), and use the Devil’s Backbone Vienna Lager in our snakebite. The malty, caramel flavor of the Vienna Lager blended splendidly with the tart Virginia Apple. In my opinion, this is the only way to drink a lager. 😉
